Lack of visa put limits on technology talent in the US

The high tech industry including software and hardware developers are faced with a dire problem. Due to the U.S. visa limitations, they are unable to hire and bring talent into the U.S. Microsoft, Amazon.com, Facebook, Salesforce.com and many others are trying to find talent they need and train them in unfamiliar and untested places such as Canada.

The U.S. government grants 85,000 H-1B visas to bring highly skilled workers. Demand is so high especially from the software developers of the tech sector and the government runs out of the allocation within five days of opening. As a result companies such as Microsoft now establish offices in Canada where there are no such restriction as long as there is a job waiting. They bring software developers from other countries such as India, Brazil, China and others to Canada and train them there too. It also helps companies because salaries there are 10 to 15 percent less than in the United States. Facebook, Twitter, salesforce.com, and Microsoft all either plan to set up shop or already have operations. Lack of talent may become a daunting problem for U.S. because other countries are not faced with similar issues. This can affect the progress of software development in the US.
