Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8

Microsoft would love to have what Apple has achieved in the mobile phone business. Microsoft’s Windows ruled the PC world in 1980s and 90s with its Windows operating system and now it is expecting to do the same for smartphones with its Windows Phone 8.

Apple and Google Android command the mobile phone sector. Google has a 52 percent of the U.S. smartphone market share. The Apple iOS has a 32 percent share. Microsoft Windows account for only four percent of the smartphone market.

How Microsoft is planning to grab a lion share of the smartphone market? In 2010, Microsoft started to look into hardware. It started a close relationship with Finnish phone maker Nokia in 2011 after it abandoned its plans for its own operating system, Symbian. Now Nokia is running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 on its Lumia 820 and 920 models. Phone is a superior design as well as a technologically advanced navigation success. People are waiting for its release.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 uses live tiles on the home screen instead of traditional grid icons. When Microsoft rolls out Windows 8 for PCs in the coming month, people will become familiar with the new operating system and that will help sales of Windows Phone 8.
